History exists so that new generations may know about the past. Written records concerning the Arasarkadavil family members date back only to the second quarter of the 18th century; what is known comes from these records, from oral tradition, and from ancient church registers and title deeds.

Around 1750, a distinguished farmer named John came with his brother from Kuravilangad in Kottayam to Mararikulam and stayed there for a while. From there, one of them moved with his family to Punnapra in Alappuzha and settled permanently. Elders record that he acquired nearly 1,200 acres of land, stretching from Panachuvadu to the Vadakkal Scooter Factory, and west to the Arabian Sea along Kuthirappanthi Road.
